Whenever I have the choice – and that happens more and more often – I do not order from the various Amazon sites anymore. I always head over to jpc.de (English) and check if their prices are identical or within a close range.
Whereas any of the global Amazon sites would throw three classical music boxes with altogether 150 CDs into a totally unsuitable (flimsy) box, add a wrinkled piece of brown paper and call it sufficient, JPC protect their shipments (and their customers’ orders). Today I received the three boxed sets I ordered the other day and they were delivered in an oversized sturdy box an elephant could use to rest its rear end on, further solidified by four very stiff cardboard inserts on the sides and padded with a truckload of white Styrofoam® packing peanuts.
The box was obviously thrown about by those bearded men and women that call themselves “postal service” here, but everything arrived in perfect mint condition.
That is the sole reason that Amazon has gotten a lot less business from me these past years because they are simply too daft to improve their packaging policy no matter how often people complain. They’d rather have stuff shipped back to them a million times … and pay for it. Hence their disappointing “growth” these past years … like forever.
Plus, the packing peanuts do have their added benefit.
