The worst thing about being a teacher is that time of year when 10 and more “final” exams (we don’t really have final exams, but they sure weigh the part) hit your desk at the same time. We are not talking multiple choice and machine-readable tests but students writing anywhere between 4 and 12 pages of text. We are talking – which is very German – up to 31 students per class. You do the math.
Approximately 200.000 words later (including my higher level courses, which produce a lot more output) , I’m done. Actually, not quite yet as there still are 31 personal comments looming on the horizon which will enter my humble workplace in a week and a half … and have to be done within 4 or 5 days. But, in comparison, all of those are going to be a piece of cake.
When I started out 21 years ago, I somehow manged to get all of it done much quicker but today, with grey hair and creaky bones, I need much more time to dig my way through it all.
Comes with the territory, I guess.
What I need now is a) sleep, b) alcohol and c) good company … not necessarily in that order.
And some really loud music.
Cheers (by the way)!
