Exitus: Karlsruhe

Ever since people decided that they wanted to have tram tunnels in the center of Karlsruhe, the city I used to frequent has turned into a massive construction site strangling smaller retailers and scaring people from outside of town away on a more or less permanent basis.

Needless to say, projected costs have skyrocketed, completion has been moved further and further down the timeline and one has the impression that the whole thing has become more of a vanity project for the city bigwigs than anything else.

Without getting into all the details, the whole thing has soured my experience considerably and I find myself both visiting less and less and spending only a fraction of the money I used to. I would assume I’m not the only one.

By the time construction is completed (presumably in 2018), there won’t be any of the shops left that attracted me to the city in the first place.
